FLYIN’ FUN!

Grades: K – 3rd
Ages: 5 – 8

Students discover how people learned to fly! Students start by examining the flight process from airports to being an airplane passenger. They will also learn about the Wright Brothers, the basic forces of flight, and examining different creatures that fly.

YOUNG AVIATORS

Grades: K – 3rd
Ages: 5 – 8

Students explore the science and history of flight! Students experiment with the four forces of flight, plane surface control parts, people that contributed to the development of flight, and there is a cockpit climb-in!

Ages: 8 – 12

Students will learn about the significance Ohio played in aviation history.

WEATHER INVESTIGATORS

Ages: 8 – 12

Students will discover all about weather.  Weather knowledge is critical for safe flight. Students will gain an understanding of basic weather science and safety, as well as some tools used at airport weather stations.

Learn how new opportunities became available for minorities, women, and even children during WWII. Interactive stations recreate the jobs and experiences of these people groups. 

Young Engineers
YOUNG ENGINEERS

Ages: 8 – 12

Explore three areas of engineering (mechanical/aeronautical, civil, and chemical), the engineer design process, and participate in ‘engineering’ different hands-on projects. 

Rockets

Ages: 8 – 12

Using the scientific method, plan and test a simple rocket build. Questions about why we need rockets, how they are different from airplanes, and what are the major components of a rocket will be explained. 

Slime Time
SLIME TIME

Grades: 3rd – 6th
Ages: 8 – 12

Dig into chemical engineering and chemical reactions. Build molecule models, learn about household chemical safety, and experiment with slime ‘recipes’.

Helicopters

 Learn about the history and uses of helicopters! Identify their unique control parts, compare similarities and differences of airplanes, and experiment with building helicopter-type flying objects.

Balloons

Discover the fascinating history of balloons, including how they helped in wartime! The science and fun behind these unique floating objects is enjoyed through experiments and creation stations.

Which came first: The airplane or the parachute? Investigate different types of parachutes, the parts of a parachute, and even their historical use for candy-bombing! Of course, a DIY parachute rounds out this educational ‘Fun Day’.

Students will learn about changes in our solar system and explore the spectacular phenomenon of eclipses.

Students will learn all about the campaign that asked all Americans to do their part in supporting the WWII war effort by collecting, saving, conserving, and recycling materials that could be used for the military.

Students investigate the science of flight. Students will explore and experiment with the four forces of flight and Bernoulli’s Principle. Students will also learn about the basic control surfaces of a plane and explore a plane.

BLACK & WHITE AIRMEN STORY

Grades: 6th – 12th
Ages: 12 – 17

Students will learn about the true story of John Leahr and Herb Heilbrun.  Students will explore the role of these local WWII servicemen and how the Tuskegee Airmen rose above the adversity of the times.

Students will learn about the secret mission that dropped spies and supplies to the resistance during WWII.

Students gain an unique insight and perspective of WWII by participating in interactive and role playing experiences. Students will decide to enlist in the armed forces or wait to be drafted and will explore the ramifications of these decisions as either a flight crew member or combat engineer.  Students will learn about military life and also how WWII altered life on the Home Front.

Students will examine the complicated history of the relocation of Japanese Americans during WWII. Students will be able to experience hands-on a typical home in a Japanese internment camp.

Garden For Victory was a necessity and protected commodity during WWII. Students will discover how this created a nationwide system of rationing, cooking, production, and gardening.
